To be one with the Lady

Image
When you look for somewhere to gather with friends and have the opportunity to pass time over conversations and laughter then I have found the location for you. Lady Carolina sits on the corner of Lygon and Glenlyon in Brunswick is set for all your social needs. Dine in the front restaurant where it is decked in candlelight and warm interior, long bars and bustling with diners. Out the back is a more casual environment, layed down with grass flooring with a which stripped bar and trees. The perfect place to catch up with friends over some cocktails and a Mexican feast. Start with the simple char grilled corn on a cob smothered with coriander mayo and quesco fresco cheese. These cobs are certainly a crowed pleaser with us all ordering a second round. To follow was a fresh and delicious White fish Ceviche with citrus, chilli and sweet potato crisps. Fresh and vibrant, this beautiful tender fish with citrus bites in the flesh and a slight hint of chilli and coriander. A great starter to g...

It feels like somethings heating up

A pre Christmas dinner with the hubby lead us to the quaint but pumping Senoritas. Surrounded by white and black classic interior with Red lace lighting was eye catching, but the art work was even more so. A dedication to the festival of the dead was a new way to embrace the Mexican cuisine. I had heard nothing but goodness so of course it made it to my forever growing list of places to wine and dine of which I thought would be the perfect send off to our Christmas festivities. Cocktails were on the go with a list that could pleasure any ones taste buds with my choice of the exquisite Horchata Gringo - smooth horchata combined with Mexican coffee and tequila is the new way everyone should drink iced coffees. If your a Tequila lover than you need not go any further. The selection is wide and will leave you at the bar for a great length of time. True Mexican at its best. So now that I'm set with my bevie, lets get down to the food shall we. Specials this evening was Ch...

Love song's & Dedications

Warm day, summer breezes and hump day can only bring you to ponder how great it would be to be relaxing outside the walls of your office trying to meet your dead lines, assisting customers and everything else that could bring a doom and gloom to your day. Happily walking out at 4pm and doing the rounds of being a taxi collecting hubby and a friend we cruise to the dynamic and fresh Radio Mexico, located just meters from Ackland street St Kilda. No reservations taken, so another one to get in early is almost full by 5:30pm and full to the brim in seconds that follow. Radio Mexico screams 'Arriba' with it's bright festive colours, cactus' and unique styling. Service is fast, friendly and efficient feeling welcomed and easy to talk to. The evening started off with beers in the boy's hands and the ice fresh salt rimmed Margarita. No better way to unwind over a hard days work. A sweet pineapple flavour with sprigs of fresh rosemary was fresh and tasty and was only highli...

I think I'm Fonda you

Image
Who wouldn't want to dine somewhere that describes themselves to be a 'family's home when it is opened up to passers by as an unofficial restaurant.'? Fonda Mexican in Richmond has based themselves around this colloquial phrase, and I am even more excited to read that when in Mexico you see a sign saying 'Fonda' I can walk right on in and be fed with a meal straight from their kitchen. With travels to Mexico in the distance of 2013, I am getting more and more involved with the cuisine and it's array of spices, and the drinks that can cool me down quicker than I can blink. So when you find out about new Mexican places popping up in conversations it does urge me to get a peddle on and try them all, but my list is growing rather fast with the Mexican cuisine becoming more and more popular compared to the day where your choice of Mexican was just Taco Bill. Not that I am here to complain, these new places hitting the Melbourne scene, are fresh and not microwaved...

A(maize)ing

In 2013 we are heading to Mexico and their is no time like the other than to engorge ourselves in the fresh spicy cuisine and of course tequila. A Friday night seemed a perfect send off into the weekend, and the sounds of Spanish music was calling us to dine at Mamasita. Not taking bookings for small numbers, we headed their early andas we were reaching the top of their stairway you could already hear that they are full. 5:00 pm and full, this must be good! Whilst waiting a short while we embrace all that is Mamasita. With it's warm cosy interior of bar and communal seating along with a small intimate dining area was was surly bustling with diners having a great time. Iron frames and metal work on the walls holding candle lite terrains makes for a simplistic and rich environment. They say that Mexican street food is full of flavours that are unexplainable. Exploding with intense chilli flavours and bursts of citrus juices makes the cuisine mouth watering and exciting. You can't...

Delightful

A busy Friday night on Lygon street with no booking leaves us wondering if there is any chance on getting 3 people into a restaurant at 7:00pm at night. The peak time for any restaurant really, and being in the industry myself made it more shameful that I didn't make a booking anywhere. A quick wonder down Lygon street and a look at some Italian restaurants made us realise that we weren't in the mood for Pizza or Pasta (funny and strange seeing as we were on Lygon street after all). apple & lychee sangria Realising this we came across Amigos, with its bright red chairs out the front and warm interior we choose to go for the Mexican cuisine, none of us had had Mexican for ages so it was a unanimous vote. Luckily at this point the Restaurant was full outside and 1/2 inside at the time of passing so we were greatful they could accommodate us, it wasn't too soon after the Restaurant was full to the brim. Now I know what you are thinking, Amigos is just another Taco Bill or ...
